District 6 officers responded to the area of Gladys and Summit on June 28, shortly before 7:30 p.m. after a woman was reported to have been hit by a train.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the 28-year-old woman was walking on the train tracks while listening to music, with earbuds inserted into her ears.
The train engineer sounded the horn and activated the breaks; however, the woman did not move from the tracks.
As the train was slowing and coming to a stop, the woman was struck. She was transported by EMS to an area hospital where she was listed in stable condition.
The Police Department for Norfolk Southern Railroad responded to the scene.
