UPDATE: Woman Killed in 3 Vehicle Accident on N. Broadway

UPDATE: A further investigation has revealed all cars involved were traveling 10 to 15 MPH above the posted speed limit, though not at what would be considered a “high rate of speed” as preliminary reports indicated. The accident occurred when the Mazda 6 veered for unknown reasons into the lane the Jeep Wrangler was traveling in. The Mazda sideswiped the left wheel-well area of the Jeep, causing the Jeep to lose control and flip over. The third vehicle, the Chevy Malibu, then crashed into the Mazda after the initial impact between the Mazda and Jeep.

None of the involved drivers were wearing seat belts; however, all children were seat belted. No further details are available at this time as investigators worked to present the case to the Circuit Attorney’s Office.

UPDATE:

The deceased woman has been identified as 31-year-old Candice Swearengen of Florissant, MO. It has also been confirmed that all four juveniles were occupying the Jeep Wrangler at the time of the crash.

The Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating after a 3-vehicle accident left a 31-year-old woman dead. The accident happened just after 10PM on March 1, 2025 near the intersection of N. Broadway and Calvary Ave.

A preliminary investigation revealed the 23-year-old driver of a Mazda 6 was driving south on N. Broadway at a high rate of speed when he entered the northbound lanes, striking a Jeep Wrangler, causing the Jeep Wrangler to flip. A Chevrolet Malibu, which was also traveling north, was struck as well.

The driver of the Jeep Wrangler, a 31-year-old woman from Florissant, was taken to the hospital where she died. A 5-month-old was also in the Jeep Wrangler and was taken to a hospital and listed in Critical, but stable condition.

The driver of the Malibu was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Three additional juveniles were conveyed to the hospital in stable condition, but it is unclear at this time if they were occupying the Jeep Wrangler or the Malibu.

The driver of the Mazda 6 was picked up by an unknown person and taken to an area hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

The investigation into the facts surrounding this case is still ongoing.
